How technology did not save the day in Iraq
I had read similar opinions before and watched news pieces on TV, but this article in Wired really sums things up better than others in the past. It takes a closer look at the war in Iraq, how technology was tossed at soldiers as a quick fix whereas the real solution likely lies with social interaction between our soldiers and the actual Iraqi citizens. I did enjoy the history of “future weapons” that we now use and the theory behind how modern warfare would be conducted.
Afghanistan, Iraq, and Lebanon were the first conflicts planned, launched, and executed with networked technologies and a networked ideology. They were supposed to be the wars of the future. And the future lost.

An interesting interview with Universal’s CEO
This man clearly does not understand the benefits of new technologies nor does he comprehend how to properly exploit them from a business perspective. That has not stopped him from becoming the CEO of one of the most influential music labels, Universal. Read Wired’s interview piece, The Angry Mogul, which is now posted online in its entirety.
At 68, he looks every bit the prototypical New York big shot. What remains of his hair is slicked back along the sides of his head, and if his face is fleshier than it once was, the ever-probing, slightly combative intensity of his eyes hasn’t dulled a bit. Morris has spent his entire life working with musicians and producers, finding and nurturing the talents that make his company a $7 billion-a-year business. It’s safe to say that increasing his digital IQ and pondering a service-based business model aren’t the topics that get him out of bed in the morning.

Campaign overload: Politicians using the web like never before
I must say that I am actually impressed with the majority of the candidates websites. Plus, they are all over Facebook, Myspace, and every other social networking site. Wired had an interesting piece on Ron Paul’s use of online campaigning.
Pick any Web 2.0 phenomenon and you’ll find Paul’s supporters exploiting it. […] Paul’s people are so Web-savvy they’ve even achieved the impossible: a MySpace page that doesn’t induce seizures.

It really has been a long time
I have not posted in such a long time. The blog was technically “broken” too because I reworked the homepage for www.matthewrwilliams.com and moved the blog’s location.
Well, I have updated Wordpress and decided it was time to start posting again. My main motivation is that I have been reading a lot of interesting articles in Popular Mechanics and Wired magazines. I discuss them as much as I can with my fiancée and friends, but a lot of the time they haven’t read the article so the conversation is one-sided.
I found that I can locate most of the articles online a few weeks after the magazine is delivered, so I am going to post links and short commentaries (maybe longer as I have time).
In addition to sharing interesting pieces that I read, I will be posting updates on my business. Wish me luck in keeping the blog up to date!
